Renaissance Art Statement Necklace, Gift-Wrapped

A statement necklace in polyamide, hand polished and hand tinted with non-toxic colours. The shapes come from a Renaissance painting, Melancholy by Lucas Cranach the Elder: a sphere, a circle and a stick, arranged so the complete piece is one object. It goes on by passing the sphere through the hoop. About 70 cm in total length, and sent gift-wrapped for artists, designers and art historians.

The painting behind it

Melancholy by Lucas Cranach the Elder sits in the National Gallery of Denmark collection. It is clear enough at first look and full of subtexts underneath: quiet longing with a twisted side, pleasure and laziness together. To a modern eye that reads as a kind of decadent glamour, which is where the idea for a fashion accessory came from.

Three shapes carry the whole design: a sphere, a circle and a stick, all of them depicted by Cranach. In the painting, three cupids try to pass the sphere through the hoop using sticks and fail. Here the task gets completed, because you have to put the sphere inside the hoop to wear the necklace.

One piece, finished by hand

The necklace is polyamide, and it arrives as one complete object that does not require further assembling. It is then hand polished and hand tinted with non-toxic colours. Total length is around 70 cm, or 28 inches, and the design is original and exclusive.
