Black Geometric Long Necklace, Wear as a Belt
A long black geometric necklace in polyamide, hand polished and hand tinted with non-toxic colours. Three shapes carry the design, a sphere, a circle and a stick, all taken from Melancholy by Lucas Cranach the Elder. The complete necklace comes as one object, and you put it on by passing the sphere through the hoop. About 110 cm long, and long enough to be worn as a belt.
Long enough to change how you wear it
The total length is about 110 cm, or 43 inches. That length is deliberate: it lets the necklace be worn in different ways, and it is long enough to be used as a belt as well. The piece is black, hand polished and hand tinted with non-toxic colours.
The shapes come from Melancholy, a painting by Lucas Cranach the Elder held in the National Gallery of Denmark collection. Three cupids in the painting are trying to pass a sphere through a hoop using sticks, and apparently not managing it. Sphere, circle and stick became the entire vocabulary of this necklace.
Made as one piece
The design was built so the complete object comes as a single piece, with nothing to assemble afterwards. It is polyamide, a material that is resistant and light. Putting it on means passing the sphere through the hoop, so the idea from the painting gets finished.
